Submission Guidelines

Submission Guidelines for CURRENTS 2015 / June 12 – 28

All applicants must submit the online submission form!

The Deadline for all Submissions is December 1, 2014. You will receive notification of our final selections on January 19, 2015.


Please read these Guidelines before filling out the Submission Form!
You will be able to access the Form at the bottom of each Category listing below.

This year’s Categories include:
New Media Installations, Outdoor Architectural Mapping and New Media Installations, Single Channel Video and Animation, Multimedia Performance, Fulldome, Experimental or Interactive Documentary, Web-Art/Art-Gaming/Mobile Device Apps, Oculus Rift, Robotics and 3D Printing.

Two new Special Categories:
Axle Contemporary Mobile Gallery and New Media New Mexico 2015 / this Special Category includes submissions for partnering venues – Warehouse 1-10 in Magdalena with more to come (see below).

Submission Form Instructions

We prefer to view work samples online (personal website, YouTube, Vimeo etc).
You may also mail a flash drive or DVD to:

Image requirements:
video still captures should be full file resolution .jpg only
photos and other images – minimum size 300 dpi, 5″x 8″ ( the larger the better ), .jpg only

Submission Fee schedule is as follows:
One Submission = $20 (USD)
Two or More Submissions in one or multiple categories = $15 (USD) for each submission
The Submission Fee for each entry must be paid separately
Submission is FREE for those 18 years old or younger.

You are welcome to submit multiple entries in one or more Categories. You must submit a new form for each entry.

Follow these steps to fill out the Submission Form:

– Fill out the general information at the top of the Form. About half way down select the Category you wish to submit your work in. Once you have selected the Category you can fill out the remainder of the Form. You are welcome to submit multiple entries in one or more categories. You must submit a new form for each entry and pay separately for each form.

– Once you have submitted the form you will be directed to PayPal to pay your fee. You will be able to pay via PayPal or use a credit card ( artists 18 or younger will skip this step and go directly to a confirmation page ). Once you have paid your fee a confirmation page will appear. If you wish to enter another submission you can select the HERE button. You will receive an email confirmation of your submission with a copy of the form you submitted.

– If you are unable to use a credit card you can mail a check to:

If you select “Yes, I am mailing a check”, once you submit you will still be sent to PaypPal. Just exit Paypal. You will receive a confirmation of your submission. You can then return to the Currents website if you would like submit another form. Pay for all entries with one check.

Category A – New Media Installations (video, sound, interactive)

Installation artists are eligible for travel, lodging and shipping assistance.
You may also apply to be considered for the Santa Fe Art Institute Residency Award.

Submissions must include:

  • a completed online submission form
  • brief written bio/bios (to be included on our website) / max 150 words each
  • the title of the work and a brief written installation description for each submission (this may be included in our program or catalog)
  • a website or URL where work can be seen (see work sample description above)

Category B – Outdoor Architectural Mapping and New Media Installations

Category C – Single Channel Video and Animation
Submissions must be 6 minutes or less in length.

Submissions must include:

Category D – Multimedia Performance
Multimedia Performance artists are eligible for travel, lodging and shipping assistance.

Category E – Fulldome
We are looking for work that makes use of the dome for its artistic potential rather than as a museum presentation or dome demonstration. All thematic concepts will be considered.

If your work is selected you must provide:
File format: .mov file with H264 or Apple ProRes 422 codec
Embedded surround sound up to 6.1 channels or stereo sound
2k (2048 x 2048) pixel resolution
No watermarks or logos in viewable area

Submissions must include:

Category F – Experimental or Interactive DocumentaryWe are looking for documentaries which are considered by their creators as art works that use video as a medium in all its variety. The work can be of personal, social or impressionistic nature.
Special guidelines for this category are:
No more than two submissions – short pieces 1-20 mins – feature pieces 45-90 mins

Submissions must include:

Category G – Web-Art, Art-Gaming, Mobile Device Apps (phone, iPad,etc)
We are looking for artists who are developing applications or websites as an art form, not as portfolio or commercial promotion. Websites may be interactive but do not have to be.

Submissions must include:

Category H – Oculus Rift
Interactive art works or expeimental documentaries created for the Oculus Rift

Two Special Categories

1 – Axle Contemporary Mobile Gallery: Call for New Media Art by New Mexico Artists

Axle’s retrofitted 1970 Aluminum stepvan has an interior exhibition space of 6 feet x 10 feet.  Download the floor plan here: Axle Floor Plan.jpg

We seek submissions/proposals for works of New Media Art for CURRENTS 2015.  Works can use the interior and/or exterior of the space, as well as surrounding public space.  Audiences can enter the space, observe from the exterior, or both.  Depending on proposal, work can be presented for one-night-only (June 12, 2015), or as much as Friday-Sunday during the 2 weekends of June 12 and June 19, 2015.

Artist will be provided with a $100 honorarium.

2016 will be our fifth year presenting New Media Art as part of the Currents festival.

2 – New Media New Mexico 2015 
       June 2015

New Media New Mexico, a project in development to highlight media arts in our state each summer, launched in June of 2014 with CURRENTS 2014 in Santa Fe presented by Parallel Studios and Digital Latin America, an Albuquerque collaboration led by 516 ARTS.

We are looking for artists or arts organizations who would like to act as venues as part of a media arts trail in New Mexico in June, 2015. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the spectacular landscape of our state and the exciting world of 21st century art at the same time.

If you would like to be part of the trail and have a proposal for an indoor or outdoor exhibition/installation venue anywhere in New Mexico contact us and we can discuss a possible collaboration. You do not need to fill out the form for this Special Category except for our statewide Partners listed below.

Warehouse 1-10 Contemporary Art Space in Magdalena, New Mexico invites statewide, national and international artists to submit proposals as part of the CURRENTS 2015 New Media New Mexico Project. They are working in collaboration with The Very Large Array, Magdalena Ridge Observatory and Bureau of Land Management can provide key outdoor locations for specific media events and installations.
