Artist Bio
I began two dimensional painting at the institute of american indian arts in santa fe, my bachelors is from the Maryland Institute college of art, and my masters from New york university (steinhardt). I am a contemporary navajo artist currently working in multiple disciplines such as paintings, large scale black and white drawings/ installations and currently in video /animation and projections and fully immersive dome projects with Vortex animation. I live between both Santa Fe n.m. and Berkelely ca, where I am creating a body of work that is predominantly abstract in nature and addresses native american mythology within a modern context and the environmental impacts on water, uranium and coal mining on native lands. I choose to work within culturally based iconography and present paintings that are inspired by navajo mythology through abstraction. I have exhibited nationally and internationally and am represented by these institutions: the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, wash, DC, the Heard museum, PHX AZ , Boston fine arts museum, Boston Ma, The New Mexico fine arts museum SFNM, Museum of indian arts and culture, SFNM, the Wheelwright museum, SFNM, The Fred Jones Museum, Norman Ok., the Autry Museum, los angeles Ca, Palm springs art Museum, Palm springs Ca, and Public and private collections.
