The ephemerality of the natural world, the denigration of the environment due to climate change, and man’s hand in the vulnerability of our surroundings are permeating themes in new media work by creative duo Susanna Carlisle and Bruce Hamilton.
The artists’ video installations and multimedia sculptures work together to become an immersive environment: one that, mirroring the natural elements it visualizes, is temporary and fleeting. The repetitive, looping videos with natural ambient sound will never synchronize the same way twice; similarly, as global landscapes shift and species disappear, future generations may never experience the familiar sights that currently surround us.
Vanishing Point confronts us with the beauty of decay. Like the soft reflection of a crumbling city in the sea that erodes it, these works act as a meditative space to reflect on the role we play in our changing environment.
