Selection notifications will go out to all artists on January 13, 2020
All applicants must submit the online submission form. Please read these guidelines before filling out the form.

You are welcome to submit multiple entries in one or more categories. You must submit a new form and pay the fee for each entry – $25 for a single entry and $20 each for multiple entries.
Submission Form Instructions
Work Samples
- Documentation of work samples must be viewable online (personal website, YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, etc)
- uploaded hi-res photos and video still captures should be no larger than 3MB .jpg only
Follow these steps to fill out the Submission Form:
- Fill out the general information at the top of the Form.
- Select the Category in which you wish to submit your work. Each Category has a separate set of questions.
- Once you have selected the Category you can fill out the remainder of the Form.
- Select whether you are submitting a single submission or multiple submissions. This will determine your fee – $25/single, $20 each/multiple.
- Submit the Form.
- Once you have submitted the form and paid your fee you will receive an email notification with a copy of the form you submitted.
- You are welcome to submit multiple entries in one or more categories. You must submit a new form and pay the fee separately for each entry.

Work in this category can be non-interactive or interactive, and can also include multi-channel video and sound work.
Artists in this category may be eligible for travel, lodging, shipping and equipment support.

Outdoor Installations and Projections
Video, Video Mapping, and Installations can be either interactive or not. The works will be presented adjacent to the Festival’s main exhibition entry at El Museo Cultural on opening weekend – June 12, 13, 14. You are welcome to submit installations designed for presentation in trucks (i.e. UHaul moving truck), vans or other vehicles.
Artists in this category may be eligible for travel, lodging, shipping and equipment support.
Submissions must include:

Multimedia Performance

Wearables – we are looking for any design or invention that can be worn by a human being. It can be 3D printed, interactive, digitally enhanced, but must contain a digital component in its production or final presentation.

Interactive Installations for Children
This category is looking for work that is accessible to children but that also appeals to the adult members of our audience. Work should utilize technology to engage the user in new, playful forms of exploration.
Artists in this category may be eligible for travel, lodging, shipping and equipment support.

Single Channel Video and Animation
This year we will be selecting 3 to 5 artists who have a strong body of single channel video or animation shorts.
Each artist’s work will either be presented on a flat panel or projected, at the discretion of the curators.
A single link to a website or Vimeo/Youtube account is preferred. If not possible you can add additional links on the submission form.
The selections chosen will be curated into a program of shorts that is no longer than 45 minutes long. It is preferred that individual videos should not be more than 15 minutes long.
For this category only, multiple works will be considered for a single $25 fee.
Please submit multi-channel video installations under the Installation category.

Experimental Documentary
We are looking for shorts and feature length documentaries which are considered by their creators as art works that use video as a medium in all its variety. The work can be of personal, social or impressionistic in nature.
Special guidelines for this category are:
No more than two submissions – shorts 1-20 mins – features 45-90 mins
Submissions must include:

Special Category
Call for Entries for The Axle Contemporary Mobile Gallery – a CURRENTS 2020 satellite exhibition.

- Artist selection will be announced February, 2020
- Works can use the interior and/or exterior of the space, as well as surrounding public space
- Audiences can enter the space, observe from the exterior, or both
