@ CURRENTS 2016: Santa Fe International New Media Festival

In 2015 the 1st-Mile Institute hosted New (+ Old) Media: Restoration, Preservation, Archiving & Access, a three day invitational retreat Working Meeting, Public Symposium and Screening of selected early video/media art works, on June 25-27, as a special program of the 2015 CURRENTS: Santa Fe International New Media Festival, attended by 35 curators, conservators, collectors and creators from SFMoMA, Smithsonian, Denver Art Museum, Hirshhorn Museum, IAIA, Chicago Video Data Bank, Georgia O’Keefe Museum, French (INA) Archive + other cultural institutions.
                                                                                                                                      

During opening weekend of CURRENTS 2016, June 10-26, 1st-Mile Institute will convene another program on the critical issues, understandings and strategic actions needed for care of temporal/unstable media arts and of our cultural future, with two primary program components.

Best Practices for Cultural Institutions: a one day intensive needs-based workshop for curators, conservators, collectors and appropriate others. Fee

Best Practices for New Media Artists: a free participatory public seminar on what today’s artists need to know to assure intended ongoing life for their creative works. Free
