You are welcome to submit multiple entries in one or more categories.  You must submit a new form and pay the fee for each entry – $25 for a single entry and $20 each for multiple entries except for: Experimental Single Channel Video, Documentary and Animation–artists may submit up to 3 videos for one $25 submission fee.


SUBMISSION FORM INSTRUCTIONS

Work Samples

  • Documentation of work samples must be viewable online (personal website, YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, etc)
  • uploaded hi-res photos and video still captures should be no larger than 3MB .jpg only
  • We will accept works in progress if you are able to submit samples that demonstrate a strong body of work

Follow these steps to fill out the Submission Form:

  • Fill out the general information at the top of the Form.
  • Select the Category in which you wish to submit your work. Each Category has a separate set of questions.
  • Once you have selected the Category you can fill out the remainder of the Form.
  • Select Yes or No to the multiple submissions’ question. This will determine your fee – $25/single, $20 each/multiple. Experimental Video, Documentary and Animation Artists may submit up to 3 videos for one $25 submission fee – select No.
  • Submit the Form.
  • Once you have submitted the form and paid your fee you will receive an email notification with a copy of the form you submitted.
  • You are welcome to submit multiple entries in one or more categories. You must submit a new form and pay the fee separately for each entry.

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES

Installations

Work in this category can be non-interactive or interactive, and include multi-channel video and sound work. It may also include the digital element solely in the fabrication process.

This year we are also accepting applications that push the aesthetic, conceptual, or mechanical envelope but do not include a digital component.

Artists in this category may be eligible for travel, lodging, shipping and equipment support.

Submissions must include:

Outdoor Installations and Projections

Video, Video Mapping, and Installations can be either interactive or not. The works will be presented adjacent to the Festival’s main exhibition entry at El Museo Cultural on opening weekend – June 17, 18, 19. You are welcome to submit installations designed for presentation in trucks (i.e. UHaul moving truck), vans or other vehicles.

Artists in this category may be eligible for travel, lodging, shipping and equipment support.

Submissions must include:

  • a website or link where work can be seen (see work sample description above)
  • if you are sending a link for a video that is password protected enter the password

Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality Environments – as a tool for art making

Multimedia Performance

We are interested in in-person and live-stream performances.

Artists in this category are eligible for travel, lodging, shipping and equipment support.

Digitally Generated or Fabricated Objects – as a tool for art making

Submissions must include:

Wearables – we are looking for any design or invention that can be worn by a human being. It can be 3D printed, interactive, digitally enhanced, but must contain a digital component in its production or final presentation.

Artists in this category may be eligible for travel, lodging, shipping and equipment support.

Interactive Installations for Children
This category is looking for work that is accessible to children but that also appeals to the adult members of our audience. Work should utilize technology to engage the user in new, playful forms of exploration.

Artists in this category may be eligible for travel, lodging, shipping and equipment support.

Experimental Single Channel Video, 360 Video, Experimental Documentary, and Animation
Submissions must be 15 minutes or less in length.

For this category only, up to 3 videos will be considered for a single $25 fee.

Please submit multi-channel video installations under the Installation category.

Submissions must include:

  • a completed online submission form
  • Upload a .pdf with links for up to 3 works – website, Vimeo account, Youtube channel, etc. If these links are password protected enter the password for each link in the .pdf. Include title, year created, and duration for each work.
  • brief bio – 875 characters max

Special Category

CURRENTS 2022 Call for Entries for The Axle Contemporary Mobile Gallery – a satellite exhibition

Our retrofitted 1970 Aluminum stepvan has an interior exhibition space of 6 feet x 10 feet.

We seek submissions/proposals for works of New Media Art for Axle during CURRENTS 2022, June 17 – 26, 2022

•New Mexico artists only
•Deadline for Proposals: November 1, 2021
•Artist selection will be announced February, 2022
•Works can use the interior and/or exterior of the space, as well as surrounding public space.
•Audiences can enter the space, observe from the exterior, or both.
•Depending on proposal, work can be presented for the Opening Weekend or as much as Friday-Sunday during all weekends of the Currents festival.

Artist will be provided with a $100 honorarium.

Proposal may include photos, written descriptions, weblinks, and video (send video as weblinks, not files).
