Aequus
A multimedia performance by artist Angela Davies, including film installation of Aequus. In the film Aequus, aerial scenes of dancers performing in an emptied lido pool at Llandudno, are echoed by footage of performers in the Irish Sea. Drawing on future plans for a nineteen-mile tidal lagoon in north Wales, the work considers the history of lido pools in Wales, sites of communal joy and play whose histories are interwoven with extractive energy production – many were built by the miners’ welfare fund. With a soundtrack composed of ocean waves transcribed and combined with field recordings and vocals, the film’s intricate choreographies narrate the complex entanglements at play in the drive toward greener energy solutions.
