Apparatus
"“Apparatus” is a technological object/instrument that translates the invisible into an audiovisual experience.
Electromagnetic frequencies of the Schumann Resonances are transformed into audible and simultaneously visual phenomenon utilizing the excitatory properties of elemental Mercury.
A small sealed vessel is vibrated using the sonified data, causing the surface of the Mercury to generate wave propogation patterns, or Cymatics. These patterns are captured by a camera and displayed on the built-in monitor. The sound, image and physical characteristics of the system become entangled with the perceptions of the viewer as well as the varied pseudo-scientific interpretations of the phenomena.
Claims of similarities between philosophical and religious intuitions and aspects of modern physics have fueled conjecture and debate regarding the phenomena described by both Schumann Resonances and Cymatics and their implications, both cosmological and practical."
