Assembly Symbiosis is an interactive, evolutionary computing based artwork, in which users participate in a shared artificial ecosystem, cultivating genetically based entities who live, reproduce and die in a large colony. The visual representation of each organism evokes the relationship between abstracted systems of knowledge and the ways in which these schemas shape our understanding of the world. Assembly uses a central computer server to run the environment continually over the course of an exhibition. Viewers interact with the Assembly colony through a tablet computer is mounted on a podium, where users can capture an Assembly from the projected environment and then cultivate that entity by genetic reproduction on their own devices before uploading it back into the collective screen. Over the time, populations emerge that are able to thrive in the ecosystem conditions.
