Astvats
Astvats intertwines generative AI with medieval Armenian manuscripts to imagine a myth of how machines learn, steal, and reinvent human language. It follows two children from the Tower of Babel who imitate and steal each other’s words, unsettling language just as AI fragments and recombines texts. From this instability arises a battlefield where fallen bodies form an evolving Bird Script—an Armenian ornamental alphabet revived by AI into shifting patterns of scripture and neural motion. The work reveals language as a fluid ecology suspended between the organic and the technological. Referencing the divine origins of the Armenian alphabet, Astvats reflects on authorship, sanctity, and the fate of language as it moves beyond human ownership, asking how humans and AI might now co-create new myths.
