Courtship is my re- imagined sculpture of one of my wife's (Tati Kaupp) large abstract oil paintings. The original painting (Tapioca 2003) which is 5 x 6 ft was painted during our courtship, hence the name of our collaboration. My concept was to digitally engrave the brush strokes of the work as positive and negative bas -reliefs on either side of a color 3d print. The frame or sides of the much smaller brick size sculpture connect each bas-relief by stretched colors at the edges of the 3d print. These geometric digital manipulations are meant to recast the original work, adding in the romantic context in which it was painted. I will let you guess which embossed side is me and which is my wife.
