For over 30 years, Jeffrey Ventrella's "swimbots" artificial life simulation has demonstrated how genetic algorithms can evolve surprising and complex behaviors.
In this playful sonified version of Ventrella's work, each swimbot is born with a genetically-determined song and a preference for certain sonic qualities in potential mates. Over time, musical "tribes" evolve within the pool.
