Deep Blue Vs Kasparov
This piece visualizes the game in 1997 between the computer Deep Blue and Garry Kasparov, where Deep Blue won. This was the first game under tournament conditions that a computer beat a reigning world chess champion. The piece is comprised of 38 ceramic tiles and a video that plays adjacent to the tiles. Each tile represents one move of the game, and the form of the tile represents the space that the chess pieces take up on the board. The video shows a rendering of the progression of the game pieces with the tile surfaces shown over the board. The piece was fabricated using digital fabrication in conjunction with traditional ceramic techniques.
