Echo/Location
Echo/Location is a map of spaces traversed and a document of memories. It is a method of sonic, embodied storytelling. Materials for this project were gathered throughout 2024-25, as I traveled abroad on a Watson Fellowship studying traditional fiber craft and sound in relation to local environmental knowledge. Throughout this time, I kept a woven journal of materials as a way to understand these unfamiliar places. I collected objects and recorded sounds as I walked, and saved little bits of material that other artists gifted me as they shared parts of their practices. I wove this journal on a backstrap loom, and at the Icelandic Textile Center, I disassembled these journal entries and embedded them into a wool garment. At I-Park, I developed a light sensor interface using Arduino to sample audio recordings captured over the course of the year.
