Eros Trilogy
Drawing on Marcuse’s and Freud’s theories of Eros, our work reflects on how industrial civilization represses human desire. While the source of this repression and its channels of expression are known, we question how people instinctively attempt to release repressed Eros, and whether such release is genuine or illusory. Through an interactive installation and an experimental short film, we explore the instinctive link between oral activity and the release of desire. The film traces the reproduction and circulation of Eros in this process. Eros never truly disappears—it builds up and erupts into new forms. Ironically, tools of release like cigarettes and chewing gum, products of industrial civilization, reveal our inescapable entanglement within its repression.
