(Fairgrounds) | Personal Space
“Everything I do starts from a drawing” says Hedwige Jacobs. Her drawings are made with simple materials such as pencils, pens and markers on paper. These form the basis from which she creates animations and site-specific installations. She draws from a growing lexicon of imagery that she has been developing over the years. Images are used, recycled and thrown out but they never leave her memory. It is what she calls her "alphabet". They question how personal and shared space are experienced. My vision is to create personal worlds that tease and intrigue the viewer. Up close we find personal space while from a distance it appears as a pattern. I am fascinated how people behave in public spaces and relate to each other, visually creating dynamic abstract and organic forms. It is not about the first impression but the second where a lot more is to be seen.
