(Fairgrounds) | Sky Ship
Sky Ship is one of a series of giant inflatables inspired by my original artificial intelligence compositions and Carl Jung's writings on UFOs (in which he posits that such sightings are rooted in humans’ escapist desires during troubled times).
I am fascinated by the fact that, unlike the custom algorithms I used previously to create digital (non-AI) artwork, the neural-net-based algorithms used to create the basis for Sky Ship have the particularly unsettling quality of no one knowing exactly how they work; their results are truly unpredictable. I truly feel that I am collaborating with the computer, manipulating the trajectory of the AI process by thoughtfully calibrating input selections based on feedback after each execution. I am fascinated by the question of what level of authorship this next-level computing manifests?
