Fiddle Henge
Performance June 13 9:45pm + June 14 7:30pm @ El Museo Cultural. See "external media" link above for event listing.
Fiddle Henge is a robotic array of four violins mounted on a 26” bass drum, played by a motorized acrylic disk. Inspired by early 20th-century mechanical musical instruments like the Mills Violano-Virtuoso, it revives the potential of stringed automata for sustained tones. The circular bow allows indefinite sustain, but unlike its predecessors, Fiddle Henge’s violins are dynamically positioned, offering new sonic possibilities through speed control of the circular bow. This integration opens up rich timbral and resonant exploration, bridging historical techniques with modern technology. I have performed with Fiddle Henge across the US, coast to coast from Lincoln Center to UCLA and am excited to bring it to Currents to perform in front of an audience of like minded artists.
