Gravity’s Law
This piece creates an immersive landscape of degenerative change in which myriad human figures fall or float - an ambiguity which viewers must resolve. The disorientation of falling or floating influences how viewers interpret the increasingly abstract setting - is it a dream state, mental space, catastrophe, apocalypse, rapture? The visual feel of this piece lands in the zone between still image and motion picture: it evolves at a constant pace just at the threshold of human perception. By the time the viewer takes in a part of the image it is already undergoing change. Viewers experience constant subtle change at the tempo of a cloud shadow moving over landscape.
Sound design is created by audio artist Josh Gumiela. Sounds are generated on the fly, reacting subtly to the the image. Gentle harmonic drones mixed with field recordings match the meditative mood.
