LightSmithing
LightSmithing is a traveling installation based on an experimental image-making practice of the same name. At its core, LightSmithing is an abstraction of the traditional photographic process in which shutter, lens, and film are replaced with a hammer, anvil, and digital camera. Participants place objects on the clear surface of the anvil, and the LightHammer illuminates with every swing, exposing the image on the camera while simultaniously destroying the objects. These images are then added to a gallery of audience-generated works which are displayed adjacent to the LightSmithing studio. Since 2012 LightSmithing has shown at World Maker Faire in NYC and the Abandon Normal Devices Festival in Liverpool, England. Most recently LightSmithing was exhibited at {Re}Happening in Black Mountain, NC.
