Living Distance (LD) is a fantasy and a mission, in which a wisdom tooth is sent to the outer space and back down to Earth again. Carried by a crystalline robotic sculpture called EBIFA, the tooth becomes a newborn entity in outer space and tells a unique story of a person in this universe. On May 2nd, 2019 the work took a round trip to the sub-orbital space on-board a Blue Origin New Shepard flight NS11.
LD is a three-part work. It is comprised of a 2-channel video installation, a sculpture, and a VR experience. The 2-channel video captures the fantasy and mission of LD as a documentary. The VR piece takes the perspective of the tooth. Whichever you experience first influences your perspective on the work. When you watch the second, your expectations of the project will be inverted to understand it is both a dream and a reality.
