Map / Territory
“Map / Territory” is an experimental animation which maps a relationship between inner and outer space, subjectivity and objectivity. The viewer is presented with an abstract, generative, detailed environment that hints at microscopic and macroscopic scales. Abstract forms ebb and flow, creating a sensation that all the individual forms belong together and are deeply interconnected. In the end, the camera zooms out of the environment, revealing that everything that the viewer has so far seen has occurred within the mind of a human. This reframing causes us to look at the piece in a fundamentally new light. In the beginning, the environment presented seems to be a physical territory by itself, by the end it has clearly become a map, an interpretation and an abstraction of the highly complex system we call the human mind.
