Peripheral Visions
This series of films are in response to the following: our passivity to the smoke and mirrors strategies used by those with power to disseminate their ideological beliefs through news media, and generate a globalized culture of fear and mistrust, secondly the deluge of generic soothing sanitized stimulus that litter our digital lives, and our compliance in the propagation of introspection and vanity through ‘selfie’ reportage. Our screens have become both shutters and windows to the world and we can't live without them. This film was created to redress and resist this propaganda and power both personal and political. The films are rapid, rhythmic and rhetorical. They utilise and imitate the language of social/news media and were created anew using their means of production; they are familiar yet uncanny and intentionally arresting, enabling them to be heard above the din of a visually saturated world.
