At the entry to the temple during the festival of lights in Tiruvunamalai India, this is how the morning goes. A slice of humanity greeting the flame as it represents God and life. Just by the man seated, reading the newspaper, is a Shiva lingam decorated with flowers, kumkum and all kinds of tikka ( spices for blessings). This 2500 year old ceremony is a two week celebration of light.
