Building 1 / Robotic Resonance
Robotic Resonance (RR) is an interactive and durational sonic art piece that features a piano harp (metal harp and strings of a piano), 2 robot arms holding spinning felt, and interactive computer control. Strings are tuned to the resonant frequencies of the exhibition venue and when activated, create a remarkable soundscape of contrapuntal harmonic relationships. Sensors collect data about situations in the site (viewer positions relative to RR, etc.) and feed this data into the computer control system, which is then interactively applied to the performance in real time. The ability of the piece to respond to the unique space and situational environment for which it is installed presents a technologically driven sculptural installation with a visual and sound experience that is adaptive to changes in location, environmental conditions, and viewer interaction.
