Shadows
Shadows is a new multimedia sculptural installation that explores nature, climate change, and our desire for growth and conquest. The piece speaks to illusion, memory, and reflection. The installation is the illusion of a tree. A tree that is no longer there but continues to show a shadow upon the ground. The piece consists of an abstract, fragmented ‘shadow’ placed on a ground surface. The form loosely references the shadow created from the leaves of a tree. At the center sits a found tree stump. The fragments are wood blocks with mirrored surfaces. Depending on lighting and location, their reflection adds dimension and illusion. Instead of light shining through the leaves, light is being reflected back up from where the leaves once were.
