The Banned Book Library
The Banned Book Library is an immersive VR installation that transports users into a library containing approximately 2,000 books banned from American public schools in 2021-2022. This experience challenges visitors to question censorship, freedom of information, and the importance of silenced voices. Inside this abandoned space filled with eerie piano music and crooked decor, users can examine banned titles and learn about their histories of restriction, but cannot read them, symbolizing the limits placed on access to ideas. As users interact with these books, they’re invited to build their own creations and sculptures, representing resilience and the triumph of creativity over censorship. Through VR, this project creates a reflective experience that highlights the enduring impact of stories, even those that some attempt to erase.
