Thought and Memory
Thought and Memory (working title) is a collaboration between ceramic artist
Cannupa Hanska Luger and filmmaker Dylan McLaughlin. The idea is to marry
together the tangible nature and storytelling of ceramic sculpture, with the thought evoking transient storytelling of video. This marriage creates a multidimensional storytelling object.
Cannupa and Dylan both come from very diverse cultures, explore different art forms and influences, yet share many parallels. This is a constant conversation between the two artists. This installation is a reflection of that process.
The piece will engage the viewer in a contemplation of the intimacy of thought and memory. One figure projects its memory onto the other, while the other projects its thoughts. It is a closed circuit, literally leaving the viewer in the dark. We are trying to objectify the etherial realms of thought and memory. What seems fluid in your own mind becomes very rigid when projected upon others.
