Topogrief
Viewers interact with light and sound through textures, sewn from reclaimed textiles and conductive thread. This arrangement of material, texture, sound and visual pattern, explore the nonlinear terrain of grief and joy, birth and death, and their intersections. The piece is meant to hold you, like in the womb or the earth at the beginning and end of life. As artists and mothers, who have experienced loss, bearing witness to the circle of life, we embrace the bittersweet in all that life has to offer. Touch triggers sounds and lights, connecting the viewer with each of the artists’ own experiences of grieving immediate family members, while also raising young children. It holds space to slow down, and let yourself feel and be held, with emotions that feel incongruent, both in our own bodies, and in our conversations with other people.
