Ashling Han
Artist Bio
Ashling Han is a Chinese-born multidisciplinary artist whose work spans installation, performance, video, and social engagement. Her art explores themes of identity, belonging, and resilience, merging science and creativity to examine the complex intersections of cultural heritage and individual autonomy. Trained initially in biology at Chongqing Medical University, Ashling’s journey shifted to the U.S., where she pursued her passion for art, culminating in a master’s degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she was awarded the highest honor of a scholarship. As an immigrant and a daughter raised within patriarchal constraints, her work deeply resonates with the lived experiences of women, immigrants, and marginalized voices. Combining scientific insight with artistic expression, Ashling’s pieces reflect the balance between trauma and recovery.
