Chris Meyer’s Alias Zone
Chris has been making electronic music since he was a teenager in the late 1970s. He designed electronic music synthesizers and digital recording devices for companies including Sequential Circuits and Roland, including creating the Vector Synthesis sound generation technique. His first album under the name Alias Zone was chosen by AFIM as the best independent electronic/new age album in 2002.
Around that time, Chris took a detour into the visual world. He and his wife Trish formed the motion graphics studios CyberMotion and Crish Design, creating award-winning opening titles and other graphic designs for film, broadcast, and corporate clients. He also created mixed media artworks intended to resemble artifacts unearthed from different civilizations.
After this extended break, Chris returned to electronic music, teaching people how to use “modular” synthesizers through his company Learning Modular (learningmodular.com) and the industry bible Patch & Tweak (patchandtweak.com). His background as a visual storyteller comes through in the uniquely atmospheric yet melodic music he now composes records, and plays under the name Alias Zone (aliaszone.com). His performances have been described as “transcendent.” He also performed at the 2022 edition of the Currents New Media Festival.
