Christy Georg
Artist Bio
Christy Georg is an Artist / Adventurer. She has worked as a deckhand aboard sailing schooners, through-hiked the 2,650 mile Pacific Crest Trail and 500 mile Colorado trail, and cruised the Arctic. Endurance, achievement, clarity-seeking, and the impossible Sisyphean attempt to capture the present moment drive underlying themes in both her life and her work.
She has been called “...a sculptor of wit and ingenuity, clearly in the tradition of Jean Tinguely and Bruce Nauman, but brilliantly original in her use of existential humor to invigorate the works” by Rob Fisher. She has been awarded twenty artist residencies worldwide including, the MacDowell Colony, Fine Arts Work Center, the John Michael Kohler Art Center and The Arctic Circle. Her sculpture has received awards from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Artists Fellowship, University of Rhode Island Sea Grant, the Mellon Foundation’s Blanche E. Colman award, New England Art Award, and the Leighton International Artists Exchange Program.
