Erika Batdorf
Artist Bio
Erika Batdorf (www.batdorf.org) has been performing, directing, animating art openings and creating award-winning work shared in 12 countries and 14 US states (including Luminato in Toronto, Venice Bienalle 2015, official collateral event, Indonesia for Salihara International Theatre Festival 2013 and 7th International Women’s Playwriting Festival 2007 mainstage, The Smithsonian Institute, Harvard University, The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, etc.). Batdorf recently Associate Directed the Polish premier of We Keep Coming Back for Self-Conscious Theatre and performed her highly acclaimed solo Poetic License in November at Literature Live! Mumbai. She is a Professor in Theatre at York University with over 25 years of teaching experience at institutions such as Boston Conservatory, Brandeis University and the University of Alaska Anchorage. Central to her research-creation activities is The Batdorf Technique, a somatic education practice that systematically trains performers to juggle multiple levels of awareness for increased presence and access to authentic emotion.
