Lea Black
Artist Bio
Lea Black is an installation artist and activist whose work spans various mediums, from sculpture and installations to architecture and photography. Her work is influenced by being vision impaired and a Zen novice priest. She uses infrared, large format photographs suspended within metal cages, cast figures and boats in motion. Black has been shown nationally and internationally. She has created and cocreated works and workshops in various parts of the world, Spain, Italy, Haiti and Jamaica. Black has taught at Reed College and other intuitions. Her work, Bearing Witness, is a viewer inter-active installation in which the work becomes sui generis for each person as they enter and take on their own role within the piece. Through this interaction each viewer’s own story and perspective become an integral element of the work.
