Artist Bio
My name is Max LaRocco, I am an artist and photographer: nearly all of my work is based in film photography and adjacent subject matter. At my studio here in Santa Fe, I hand roll film, shoot it, develop it, scan it, and print; I own and maintain industrial grade equipment in order to accomplish this for myself and others. I have mostly worked in darkrooms and as museum/gallery technical support in the past, so my artwork often includes meta references to the methods, history, and ephemera of photography and art at large. Maintaining and understanding different types of machinery is essential to my artwork, and that goes way beyond old cameras. I came of age during the switch from analog to digital, and now we are seeing an entirely new shift. My artwork begins with film photography but it attempts to update it for our current metamodern age.
