Nancy Dewhurst
Artist Bio
Nancy Dewhurst’s interdisciplinary practice explores the variables of systems. Her working process is grounded in a philosophy of play. Play is an incubator for serious thought and fertile ground for unexpected discoveries. Dewhurst’s current body of research and work speculates on systems of the future. She is interested in the capacities of world building to reflect upon the present and project towards the future. Or, as Donna Haraway describes, storytelling is the “patterning of possible worlds and possible times, material-semiotic worlds, gone, here, and yet to come”. She completed her BFA in Sculpture and Environmental Art from the Glasgow School of Art in 2018. She attended the University of New Mexico in 2016 as an exchange student on the Land Arts of the American West program, which inspired her to return to UNM in 2022 to pursue her MFA.
