Ranger Liu
Artist Bio
RANGER LIU (they/them) is an artist and astrophysicist interested in using abstract structures to communicate lived experience through sound. Their work uses theoretical frameworks, including math, astronomy, physics, and linguistics, to develop physical processes for data-based sonic and sculptural composition. They frequently use their own lived experience as a queer & trans Chinese-American as source material for these compositions, producing autotheoretic works halfway between data sonification/visualization and traditional composition. They hold an MFA in Design & Technology from Parsons School of Design and BAs in Astrophysics & Computer Science from Columbia University, and they are currently a 1st year PhD student in Astronomy & Astrobiology at the University of Washington.
