Simona Fitcal is a multimedia artist currently pursuing an MFA degree in Art Practice at Stanford University. She holds an MA in Digital Media from the University of the Arts Bremen, Germany and a BA from the National University of Arts Bucharest, Romania. Most of her work is based on collaborations with composers, media designers, and programmers. She created the visual part of a series of multimedia concerts that were presented in Germany, Romania and Ireland. Some of her interactive installations have been presented in open space, as well as at indoors events.
Her visuals tackle the power of seduction specific to the cinematic spectacle by reflecting upon the ubiquitous manipulation of media and information in the consumer society. Some of her themes are inspired by globally relevant topics such as environmental issues, advertising and privacy, or cultural identity. This method is an attempt to document the present and to capture the self in relation to digital values, trends, ever-shifting environment, inter-cultural and cross-cultural communication.
