QUADRAPHONIC SPRING
“QUADROPHONIC SPRING“ is an intimate performance venue which graphically maps and mutates a sacred hot spring onto the interior surfaces of a suspended paper dome. The sacred hot spring and its history, currently known as “Spence Hot Spring within the Valles Caldera”, juxtaposes against the nearby Los Alamos National Laboratory and its relationship to land, technology, and heat. The dome surfaces or “intrados” are mirrored, mapped, and tabbed into a unique QUAD-chambered environment through low-poly modeling, graphic manipulation, and experimental printing techniques. The resulting environment incorporates looping audio tracks scored by musical luminary Michael Demps. Entitled “SPRING”, the score draws linkages with the interior graphics through a quadraphonic composition, a sylvan sound, and a series of bassline portals. The mash-up of this audio score within a re-presented sacred environment is meant to stoke a deeper and more critical engagement of both elements - framing conversations about humanity, technology, and ecology over time.
