The Glass Gardens
"Glass Gardens” is an ongoing series of post-natural specimens that consider how to encapsulate a spectrum between transience and permanence. The series contains X number of delicately engineered specimens that are neither digital nor biologicially native. Beginning with a process adopted for biotechnology, botanical samples are decellularized to remove their cellular contents. What remains is a ‘scaffold’ for beginning again. These ‘scaffolds’ are used as a starting point for post-natural speculation in the garden. Fragile, sharp and often beautiful, within the Anthropocene, all environments have become glass gardens. As physical objects they reference the uncanny stillness of taxidermy forms, while their digital counterparts simulate life through deriving motion.
