Walking
Walking through the world every day, we often find that experience to be one in which people and vehicles move but the landscape remains largely still. But the moment one stops to look at a pebble or a pond, the shift in attention and scale destabilizes our perceptions. "Walking" is an homage to an animate landscape, one composed of image fragments that flow slowly by on their own terms, allowing us in turn to experience our own stillness. As an endless procedural artwork, "Walking" is programmed so that the specific composition of images and their relationship to one another will never repeat; it is a landscape making itself constantly anew. Over time, the sequence shifts from black and white to muted color and back. The design and programming are by Antoinette LaFarge, with many images contributed by the artist Christel Dillbohner.
