Jo Lawrence
Artist Bio
Jo Lawrence turned to the moving image after an M.A in animation at Kingston University, and later developed ‘Glow’ during a residency at Bradford’s National Media Museum. Commissioned by Channel 4 ‘Glow’ was screened in 2007 on Channel 4. In 2008 as Digital Media Artist in residence at the V&A Jo began production of ‘Glover’. In 2009 her film Pavementopera was commissioned for Tate Britain(Tate Late).
Other films followed including ‘Barnet Fair’ produced for the National Media Museum, Bradford,U.K. and ‘Ylem’, (Animate Projects/Lupus) which was commissioned for Channel 4’s Random Acts and won the Screengrab Media Arts Award 2012. All films have been screened widely at animation festivals and Glover was nominated for inclusion in the finals of the British Animation Awards.
In 2013 The Land of Lace (an animated digital opera) was produced for Mahogany Opera, and her most recent residency resulted in,’The woman who owns the sun’.
