Artist Bio
Mat Ward investigates the acoustic structure of sound and its relationship to emotion and communication through the use of field recordings, generated noise and traditional instruments. His work is presented through performance, installation, noise art and sonic portraiture. Recent work includes the performance piece Conversazioni Difficilli con il Mare at the Giornata del Contemporaneo festival Sardinia (Oct 24) and the sound installation Caligo Paean at the Ten Days On Island Festival (March 2025)in Australia.In August 2025 he was the inaugural recipient of the La Baldi Residency (Tuscany) a new partnership between Cultivate Projects (U.S.A) and The Salamanca Art Centre (Australia). His career objective is to produce contemporary works that collapse genres, expand audience engagement with soundart and challenge established notions of what constitutes music.
